Safety, Sustainability, and Stewardship for Athens
Hello from Beth Clodfelter! I was born here in Athens when my mom taught at Morrison Elementary School and my dad was a graduate student at Ohio University. After growing up in a small college town in Indiana, graduating as the senior class president at a high school in Indianapolis, and then getting my degrees at Indiana University, over 20 years ago I moved back to Athens. Planning to just be here for two years or so, it did not take much time at all for me to fall in love with our community and decide to make it my home.
For years I worked at Ohio University and I helped over 150 students earn prestigious Fulbright US Student scholarships, sometimes getting OHIO the highest number of Fulbright scholarships of any university in Ohio. Now I work with the Southeast Ohio Public Energy Council (SOPEC) and am an active community volunteer. My community experience includes:
Board member of the Athens Hocking Recycling Center
Board member of the Appalachian Peace and Justice Network
Soon-to-be board member of the Sugar Bush Foundation
Co-founder and coordinator of the Athens Time Exchange
Member of Rural Action
Member of the Athens County Sustainability Council
Member of the Indivisible Appalachian Ohio chapter
I am a positive, solutions-focused person ready to work hard to make our great town even better, as an at-large member of the Athens City Council. One thing that I love about Athens is the number of people here who try hard in different ways to further improve our town, our region, and our world. One of my skills is bringing people together, which I hope will help us to heal divisions and find creative ideas to keep improving our wonderful community.
